Lens of Life — Record Your Moment
The Problem
Children at local reading gardens (taman baca) have limited exposure to digital tools and no structured guidance on how to critically consume or create content online. In an era where video content dominates daily life, digital literacy has become as essential as reading and writing — yet it remains inaccessible to many young learners in underserved communities.
What We Did
Record Your Moment is a social initiative under Lens of Life, bringing hands-on digital literacy workshops directly to children at a taman baca (community reading garden).
The program covered:
Digital Content Creation Tools
- Introduction to CapCut for basic video editing — trimming, transitions, text overlays, and music
- Introduction to Canva for visual content design — posters, presentations, and social media graphics
- Hands-on practice sessions where children created their own short videos and designs
Media Literacy Education
- Guided discussion on how to critically evaluate video content on the internet
- Understanding the difference between credible and misleading content
- Awareness of responsible digital behavior and content consumption habits
Input
- Children from the local taman baca community with little to no prior exposure to digital creation tools
- Volunteers and facilitators equipped with laptops, teaching materials, and workshop modules
- Structured curriculum covering both technical tools and media literacy concepts
Output
- Children who can independently navigate CapCut and Canva for basic content creation
- Improved awareness of media literacy — understanding how to evaluate and consume online video content critically
- Short video and design outputs created by the children themselves during the workshop
- A meaningful bridge between underserved young learners and the digital creative world
My Role
I served as Vice Project Manager — supporting overall project planning, coordinating between team members and facilitators, ensuring the workshop modules were delivered on schedule, and helping manage the on-site execution of the program.
Impact
This project reinforced my belief that technology is most powerful when it's made accessible. Watching children confidently edit their first video or design their first poster was a reminder that digital skills are not a privilege — they should be a right.
